Not event Storm Darragh could stop Knighton celebrating Christmas – as Santa visited the town on the weekend to deliver some early gifts.

Upto 100 children went along to the Civic Centre where Santa’s beautiful grotto had been created. There Santa saw each and every child and gave them a little gift.

Knighton Silver Band played festive music and carols.

The town was due to hold its Christmas light switch-on event on December 7 but a red weather alert for Wales because of Storm Darragh caused the festive event to be cancelled.

Knighton Mayor Councillor Chris Branford said: “We had to cancel the original event for the safety of the children and parents, so the town’s Christmas lights were switched on with timers.

“But Santa kindly agreed to come to town on Thursday to see all the children. It was lovely to see upto 100 children come along to receive a present from Santa in his grotto.

“There are so many people that helped so much and I very much appreciated them giving their time and effort to put on the festive event. They included Peter and Sharon and helpers, Scott and Becky, Nicky Tranter, Knighton Town Band, Santa, Trish at Restorella, Richard Naughton and everyone else who helped and came along on the night.

“I wish everyone a good Christmas and a prosperous new year.”
