This term has been a whirlwind of positivity, growth, and achievement at Burton Borough School.

Together, we are nurturing not just academic excellence but the character and values that will shape our students’ futures. I am deeply grateful to our students, families, and the wider community for their unwavering support and enthusiasm. I look forward to building on this strong foundation in the terms ahead.

As we close out this busy and rewarding first term, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire Burton Borough community for the warm welcome I have received. It has been an absolute pleasure to witness our school values - ambitious, proud, and caring -coming to life in all aspects of school life.

I have been delighted to see our students excel not only in their studies but also in their extra-curricular pursuits and personal achievements.

Highlights include our Year 11 students’ diligent efforts towards their mock exams, their dedication to after-school revision sessions, and the close partnership between school and families at the Year 11 Parents’ Evening, helping to unlock their full potential.

Our ‘Pathway to Platinum’ initiative, which allows students to embody our core values and work towards Platinum status in Year 11, has been particularly inspiring. Students have already embraced opportunities to lead in sports, contribute to the performing arts, and serve on the student council - exemplifying their ambition, pride, and care.

I am incredibly proud of our school’s role in Newport’s Remembrance services, including the respectful two-minute silence observed at school and our involvement in the community concert alongside the Royal British Legion, Newport Male Voice Choir, and Newport Junior School. It was particularly moving to see Eden Clifford and Lucas Corbishley laying a wreath in remembrance, and our students participating as cadets in the Sunday service at St Nicholas’ Church.

Our efforts to strengthen community partnerships have been inspiring. Through collaborations with Immi’s Cakes and Bakes, Newport Town Council, and Newport Cottage Care, we have embedded our school values into the broader community. Additionally, our growing relationship with The Hub will provide valuable workplace opportunities for our students to further develop their skills.

This term saw a strong emphasis on preparing our students for their future careers. Our Work Experience Evening celebrated the skills students gained in their placements, with support from local businesses, councillors, colleges, and families. The Careers Fair brought post-16 providers and employers into school, inspiring students to dream big about their futures.

Individual and Team Successes

Our students have achieved remarkable individual milestones this term. We are so proud of them all. Special congratulations to:

Eden Clifford, who has been chosen as one of just 30 nationally to be published in the Brilliant Club’s Scholar journal.

The festive season started for us with our participation in the Community Carol Concert at St Nicholas’ Church, where Tayla New beautifully read 'Twas The Night Before Christmas.

We look forward to hosting our own Christmas Concert on Monday December 16, and welcoming guests to our Festive Afternoon Tea the following day.
