Shaun Wilkinson, aged 31, was caged for eight years last month for knifing the teen with a machete in Park Street, Wirral, Merseyside on August 10 this year.

Shrewsbury Crown Court was told that four days after the attack, police officers on mobile patrol in Hanwood, near Shrewsbury, stopped and searched Wilkinson. They found a locking Stanley knife in his possession and arrested him.

Wilkinson, who joined his sentencing hearing via video link from HMP Liverpool, had pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place at an earlier magistrates court hearing.

The court was told that before he was convicted for stabbing the boy, Wilkinson had racked up 56 convictions for 142 offences, including two offences involving knives.
