Telford & Wrekin Council welcomes new road repair funding from government

The government's extra funding to fill potholes and repair roads, including £60m for the West Midlands and Shropshire, is aimed at helping councils fix the equivalent of seven million extra potholes a year, saving drivers hundreds of pounds in repairs.

Telford & Wrekin Council said it has made "great strides" to tackle the borough's potholes and stated it "remains committed" to repairing them and making the borough’s roads safer and better for all residents and motorists.

The local authority reported that its crews have repaired 5,962 potholes across the borough since January 2023, more than the 3,233 that residents have reported.

Telford & Wrekin Council's deputy leader and cabinet member for housing, highways and enforcement, Councillor Richard Overton, said: "We welcome today’s announcement and government’s decision to plough much-needed funding into fixing potholes which will help to make roads safer for residents in our borough and motorists nationally.

"As we enter the time of year when pothole are more prominent in the roads, we remain committed to repairing potholes, inspecting all those reported to us, and aim to repair the most dangerous potholes within one working day.

"This proactive approach combined with the funds to deliver creates safer roads, long-term for all our borough's residents and stakeholders.
