Police to be offered Knighton Civic Centre to hold surgeries
Dyfed Powys Police will be offered the chance to use Knighton Civic Centre for police surgery sessions.
Knighton Mayor Councillor Chris Branford proposed the move to give town residents the chance to be able to speak to the police, report incidents and voice their concerns.
The surgery was a request from a Knighton resident who attended a recent police surgery with agreement from and on behalf of the police
Councillor Branford said it would enable the police to consult with the community and she said the space at the council’s home should be offered free of charge.
Councillor Tina Sharp seconded the proposal and members approved it unanimously.
It comes after the council agreed to offer complementary hire of the civic centre for three months to Kaleidoscope – a charity helping people with substance misuse issues
They were offered the chance to use the town’s council’s venue on a Tuesday from 9am until 4pm, free of charge for three months.
Members agreed to review the situation in December.
Councillor Tom Crail said Kaleidoscope was given temporary space at the Knighton Hospital but now needs a new venue to continue its work in Knighton.
He said as the civic centre is currently underused, and therefore not serving the people of Knighton as it could, he proposed offering complementary venue hire for a limited period to Kaleidoscope.
