Historic Kington Market Hall may be repaired soon
A historic Kington building may be repaired soon over a year after it was damaged by an uninsured driver.
A hole was left in the Market Hall at around 4am on November 26 2023, just before the town was due to enjoy its festive light switch-on event and the annual popular food festival.
The town council says the hole is having an impact on tourism, visitors and the town centre.
At a recent town council meeting town clerk Liz Kelso said she had been pressing Herefordshire Council to undertake the repairs.
“A surveyor from Herefordshire Council, together with a heritage building consultant surveyed the building on December 3. They concluded the bricks will need to be remade but given their age the composition should be relatively straightforward to source
“The historic mortar used is cement based which makes life easier and provided that the brick can be sourced Listed Building Consent will not be required as we can justify that the repair is on a like for like basis.
“Quotes are being obtained and Herefordshire Council hope to instruct a conservation contractor to undertake the work following receipt of the quotes.”
