The incident happened in Rowan Road, Market Drayton at around 2.15am. There were no casualties.

Crews were on the scene until around 5am, and investigators are returning this morning to continue looking into the cause, although it is believed it was an electrical issue.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, December 24, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting a property fire in Market Drayton.

“Domestic property fire in roof space. Crews wore breathing apparatus whilst using two hose reel jets and two covering jets to extinguish the fire.

“Crews emptied the loft and carried out salvage. A thermal imaging camera was also used to continue checking for hot spots.”

Three fire engines were sent to the scene from Hodnet, Market Drayton and Wellington. An operations officer was also in attendance.
