15.27 per cent increase for Llandrindod Wells Town Council's budget
Llandrindod Wells Town Council has set a realistic and adequate budget for 2025/26 and has considered all the implications on the services for local residents
This included discussion on the services which are not being delivered to a satisfactory standard by Powys County Council and have been identified by town residents.
The budget for 2025/26, £248,790, includes a 15.27 per cent increase.
This equates to a council tax rise of £12.56 per annum per household, from £84.53 this year to £97.09 next year – just over £1 a month
The figures for Powys County Council, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue and Dyfed Powys Police will be added to this before the bills hit the doormat.
The town council has agreed to engage a town caretaker to take responsibility for picking up litter, weeding, tackling graffiti and other associated tasks. This will give the town a cleaner, tidier and more welcoming appearance. £9500 has been included in the budget to fund this service.
Llandrindod Wells Town clerk Jane Johnston said: “Unfortunately, it has been well documented that the Station Crescent Toilets have been continually vandalised and now the building needs a new roof.
“In order to support this, an additional £17,000 has been placed in the budget to support repairs and renewals. Residents have identified that this is a crucial service for residents and visitors.
“The Town Council has tried charging for toilets, locking the toilets and other methods but none of these solutions stop the vandalism.
“The Town Council took on the responsibility for operating the Lake Toilets several years ago and receives no funding support. These toilets continually need maintenance and renewals and therefore £20,000 has been placed in the budget to support this service.
“However, the council will be exploring any grant funding opportunities should they arise.
“A full refurbishment cost would be in the region of £70,000.”
The Town Council will continue to deliver its services, award grants to local groups, provide Christmas lights, a firework display and support other local activities and initiatives.
Powys County Council has launched the Sustainable Powys Project, and the town council expects this will place further financial pressures on Town and Community Councils. Further information on the implications for Llandrindod Wells Town Council will be provided once identified.
The town council recently awarded £2,500 to the carnival committee, Llandrindod Wells Silver Band, Llandrindod Wells Community Fridge, and the Twinning Association, £500 to Llandrindod Wells Children’s Eisteddfod and £1,500 to Llandrindod Wells Community Events.
