Knighton Town Council is urging local politicians and councillors to support improved bus services for the town in transport reviews.

They will write to Brecon and Radnorshire Senedd Member James Evans and Knighton County Councillors Angelique Williams and Corinna Kenyon-Wade.

Councillor Tom Taylor said there is going to be a transport review at Powys County Council and at the Senedd and he urged the members to stand up for Knighton.

He called for the introduction of a Monday to Saturday service to Newtown for employment, education, hospital, shopping and leisure services, and the introduction of a Sunday and bank holiday service to run between Ludlow, Leintwardine, Knighton, Clun, Montgomery, Powis Castle and Welshpool for leisure activities.

Councillor Taylor also called for the introduction of the proposed TransCymru T48 service to supplement the degraded and unreliable train service between Craven Arms/Ludlow and Ammanford and he said bus infrastructure needs to be improved in Knighton with the provision of bus stops and timetables and a main bus stop outside the Civic Centre to serve the town centre with a shelter, timetables and an electronic departure board.

Councillor Petranella Ford seconded Councillor Taylor’s proposal.

She said: “With the Sustainable Powys project they are trying to develop, there may be lots of services that we will not be able to get to in one of the main five hubs. This will make it even more important that we have good public transport links so we can access these services.”

Members unanimously agreed to support the calls for improved bus services.
