Remembering Bridgnorth veteran of Britain's 'forgotten invasion' who died last year

A Shropshire woman has asked people to remember the efforts of British military soldiers, many of them conscripts, who fought and died in one of the country's least successful and remembered military actions – and the efforts of  Bridgnorth man who has ensured they will not be forgotten.

The Suez conflict in 1956, was an invasion involving Britain and France to seize back control of the Suez Canal from Egypt, after Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser nationalized it.

The landings were condemned internationally, and the United States pressured Britain and France to withdraw their troops. 

Jeffrey Graham Malone from Bridgnorth who has passed away. He was a Suez veteran and founder of the Suez Veterans Association (no longer going). Eileen and Jeff worked together for many years taking people to Suez to visit relatives buried there. There is also a memorial area at the National Arboretum thanks to them too.

The crisis damaged Britain's prestige and strained Anglo-American relations.
