The Crown Inn in Newcastle-on-Clun, near Clun, was closed in January 2023 but the parish council has spent the last two years attempting to get grant funding to reopen the pub for the community.
The village is now celebrating after the government announced it is to receive nearly £270,000 to refurbish and reopen a village pub closed since last year.
Steve Burge of Newcastle-on-Clun Parish Council said the group was “delighted” especially after its first application for funding was turned down.
He said: “We have been working on this for two years. Over its time the pub has been a thriving part of the community. The football club meets there, the bowling club meets there. It is the heart of the community really.
