A water leak which has resulted in a bill of over £4,500 for Knighton Town Council, has been capped and has stopped.
The town council was told that Councillors David Williams and Andrew Craggs went to the site and managed to locate the leak.
They said it has been capped so the leak should have stopped now.
Town Clerk Lorian Craggs Alferoff said the town council will need to report it to Dwr Cymru and they will then come out and check on the leak. Evidence is needed that it has stopped for 14 days.
The bill was for a water leak at the cemetery toilets on Presteigne Road but it was a leak that the council did not know about as it was under a hedge on the boundary edge and it was difficult to find.
Ms Craggs Alferoff told members at a recent meeting that the bill is for £4,679.18.
She said she had set up a payment plan with Welsh Water so the council could pay the bill over the next 12 months but she said she would try and get the bill reduced as the council couldn’t possibly have known about the leak because of its location.
But Deputy Mayor Councillor Ben Butler said the council will not be able to negotiate over the cost of the water bill until the leak is repaired.
