Experts at the British Geological Survey (BGS), who monitor tectonic earthquake activity across the British Isles, have reported that Shropshire was hit by an earthquake over the weekend.

They said that the quake, which had a magnitude of 1.8 on the Richter Scale, struck at Newport, at around 7.53pm on Saturday - December 28.

The update from the BGS says the quake had a depth of six kilometres.

A map of the epicentre of the quake shows it struck just north of Harper Adams' campus at Edgmond.

The BGS has asked for feedback from people who felt the earth shake to report it via their website.
