Early budget discussions in Kington suggest the town council’s part of council tax may increase by about 4.8 per cent.

This would give the town council a precept of about £134,000 and would see the average Band D property being asked to pay about £144.50, an increase of about £6.50 a year compared to last year.

Chairman of the Finance and General Purpose Committee Councillor Richard Banks told members that the council is facing increased staffing costs and costs for projects such as the public open space at Crooked Well.

However, he said that this figure may not be the final proposal in January as they are still waiting for several estimates of costs so things may change.

There was no formal agreement at the December meeting but members noted that the F and GP committee will make a final recommendation and it will be presented to the full council meeting in January for a decision.

Whatever amount the town council agrees on, it will be added to council tax figures from Herefordshire Council, West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service for the final bills.
