In fact Shaun Burgess has run not one, not two, but three thousand miles this year to raise money for the The Brain Tumour Charity and the Meningioma Support Group.

Shaun, from Lyneal near Ellesmere, has raised more than £7,000 with his remarkable feat - and feet - wearing out four pairs of trainers and averaging 57.6 miles in his six runs a week.

He completed his challenge on December 30, joined by members of the Whitchurch Whippets and Ellesmere Runners groups of which he is a popular member.

They ran the two miles from Colemere to The Sun at Welshampton bringing Shaun's total to a staggering 3,001 miles.

"I wanted to make sure I went over the distance," he said.

The challenge was to thank the charities after Shaun's wife, Mo, was diagnosed with a brain tumour nine years ago.

Thankfully it wasn't cancerous but she had to undergo surgery twice.

He also lost a friend to a brain tumour last year.

Shaun was joined by fellow runners for the final leg.

"Mo was very lucky to survive her brain tumour and the charities mean a lot to us," he said.

As well as sponsorship the couple have held fundraisers over the year.

This is Shaun's third major fundraiser.

In 2021 he ran 2021 miles.

"I thought, well why not do 3,000?" he said.

"It's been hard, particularly in the last month when I was ill. I'm looking forward to a rest now. The money is still coming in and I will announce the total in January."
