The Bracken Singers continued their pre- Christmas series of no less than ten concerts in total, under new leader and conductor Vera Buckler.

On the morning of Tuesday December 10 when they entertained the residents and staff of Crosfield House Residential Home in Rhayader.

Their 15 strong mix of well-known carols and popular Christmas songs, were well received and much appreciated by the residents and staff who sang along throughout especially with the standard festive favourites.

On the Thursday of that week the Singers took time out for a very successful and excellent group Christmas lunch at Llandrindod Wells Golf Club.

The Friday evening saw the Bracken Singers return to the serious business of singing when they appeared and performed at the spa town’s Bandstand. This was part of an outdoor concert organised by Llandrindod Wells Town Council entitled “Carols at the Bandstand”.

There was an excellent size gathering of people for this time- honoured tradition of carol singing, together with mulled wine and mince pies. Despite the inclement weather the event was well supported, and the Singers did well and were complimented for their efforts.

On Saturday afternoon December 14, the Singers were under the canopy in the Rock Park to support a “Winter Festival”, unfortunately because of the bitter cold weather the market wasn’t well supported, but the Singers had the consolation of being appreciated by the stallholders.

Monday morning December 16 brought the Singers ninth performance out of ten before Christmas, with one engagement at the Lakeside Boat House being cancelled because of the national early December storm Darragh.

The Singers performed for the Christmas shoppers at the entrance to Tesco’s Superstore, Llandrindod Wells, for over an hour.

The Singers must have pleased and delighted the local customers because people gave generously in the bucket for donations to the Bracken Trust funds.

On Tuesday December 17 the Singers arrived at Wylesfield Care Home, Llandrindod Wells, for their tenth and final concert to entertain the residents and staff. The Singers under leader and conductor Vera Buckler and piano accompanist Sue Turner, were their usual strength of just over 20.

They went through their entire programme of carols and popular Christmas songs. Their performance was well received and appreciated by the residents and staff of Wylesfield and the Singers were thanked by the Management for their efforts at the end.

Following this their final performance prior to Christmas, the suggestion was made within the group that the Singers should retire to the Metropole Hotel with their leader Vera Buckler for tea, coffee and other seasonal refreshments.
