The town council faced horrendous problems this year in getting all the permissions in place to install the town’s Christmas lights, as the town is based on a trunk road.

As a result, members have been thinking of other ways to mark Christmas in the town.

Town clerk Louise Hammond said one of the ideas is to put lights down at the Groe on the trees, as a back-up plan because of the issues they have faced this year.

Builth Wells Mayor Councillor Gwyn Davies said they will definitely have a Christmas tree with lights down at the Groe next year.

But he said while he would love to create a winter wonderland at the Groe, he said he thinks there will be a lot of health and safety work to do before they could do it.

“I am quite keen on the idea but I think it is going to be quite a lot of work. Let us get through this Christmas and then we will start thinking about it in January,” he added.
