The situation comes after heavy rain earlier in the week caused significant disruption in Mid Wales and parts of Shropshire.

Flood alerts and warnings have been in place since with the Environment Agency expecting the River Severn to peak in the coming days.

Flood barriers have gone up at Frankwell in Shrewsbury, this morning, as well as at Bewdley.

It comes with the MET Office warning of potential snow for the region on Saturday, through to Monday.

Now Telford & Wrekin Council has confirmed some measures will be in place for Ironbridge - but that barriers are not expected to be used on the Wharfage.

An update on social media said: "Environment Agency (EA) has advised gully bungs will need to be installed early tomorrow morning.

"On street parking will be suspended and bays coned off from 7pm this evening - January 2."

It added: "We are not expecting flood barriers to be deployed, based on current forecasts, but will update if this changes.

"Businesses are open as usual in The Gorge."
