Penybont Young Farmer’s Club’s After Dark Tractor Run has raised about £3,500 for two important charities.

The festive spectacle returned on December 22, bringing festive fun and raising money for charity.

The event has become hugely popular after first being held in 2021.

This year raised money for two charities – the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the DPJ Foundation.

The run started from Crossgates Primary School, with everyone setting off at 4.30pm.

The prize for the best dressed tractor this year went to Kevin Jones, who won the Gary Powell Memorial Cup for his festive fireplace enty.

A spokesperson for the run said:“The MND Assocation is a charity which is very important to the club and is a charity we want to continue to raise money for so that they can continue to support those who need it,” said a club spokesman.

“Motor Neurone Disease is a rare condition affecting the brain and nerves. It happens when cells in the brain and nerves, called motor neurones, gradually stop working. It’s not known why this happens.

“The DPJ Foundation is a charity which is particularly important to us living in a rural area. The foundation supports people in the agricultural sector in Wales with poor mental health.

“The DPJ Foundation educates and informs people about mental health, provides support not only to those dealing with poor mental health, but also to their families, friends and colleagues and runs a 24/7 confidential support line called ‘Share the Load’.

“The money raised from our tractor run can help them provide a number of services.

“Thank you to all the businesses who kindly donated either money or raffle prizes this year! It is very much appreciated by all of us.

“A special mention must go to M Shaw Groundwork’s for his excellent donation as well as providing lighting for the event.

“Thank you to Lee Percy for putting an excellent display on up the lake and giving all stewards a free drink. As well as Radnor YFC Choir for their performance up the lake.

“A massive thank you must go to all our stewards and everyone who helped at this event. Special mention must go to Gaynor James for being on the speaker all evening

“The last thank you must go to everyone who supported this event and donated money! We have roughly raised around £3500. We are very pleased with amount raised and we hope to continue this event next year!”
