Officers from Church Stretton and Craven Arms Safer Neighbourhood Teams worked together with National Trust Wardens at the Carding Mill Valley on Friday to catch the motorbike riders.

Two men were stopped and spoken to by a National Trust warden who then informed West Mercia Police of the incident.

Police officers spotted the offenders as they were in the process of loading their vehicles onto a trailer.

Both men were reported for riding without insurance, and one for not having a licence.

West Mercia Police PCSO in Church Stretton and Craven Arms Jay Rees said: "These two unregistered motorbikes were seen off-roading on the Long Mynd yesterday (Friday).

"They were stopped and spoken to by a National Trust warden who then called us directly. PC King-Salter and CSO Rees attended and caught up with them just as they were in the process of loading the motorbikes back onto their trailer.

"Both males reported for riding without insurance and one for not even having a licence. We then seized both bikes and sent the males off home with clear instructions to tell their friends, who apparently ‘come up here all the time’, of the consequences of this type of antisocial behaviour.

"West Mercia Police will always support law-abiding drivers and riders who wish to legally and respectfully use the network of byways in the county. However, we have a zero tolerance approach to those who choose to ride roughshod over the wildlife-rich and stunningly beautiful Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

"We are aware that this is an issue in the local area - we can't continue to combat illegal and antisocial driving without your help. If you are aware of, or witness driving offences please do make contact with us - we work off of information provided by the public."
