Fire service deal with series of crashes - including two cars on their sides

The fire service were called to three crashes in the space of a few hours - including two cars on their sides.

The incidents took place in Telford, Market Drayton, and Whitchurch.

The first callout came at around 5.20pm last night - Sunday, January 6, with one crew responding to a report of a crash on the A4169 in Telford.

An update from Shropshire Fire and Rescue said they made sure the vehicle, which was on its side, was safe, before leaving with its owner to arrange the recovery.

A second incident happened around 5.50am today on the A41 at Wistanswick.

The fire service said one crew had been sent to an incident where a van had ended up on its side.

An update from Market Drayton Fire Station online said: "At 05:54 hours on Monday the Rescue Pump from Market Drayton was mobilised by fire control to reports of a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) having occurred on the A41 near Wistanswick.

"On arrival at the scene the crew found that a light goods van had left the road and come to rest on its side on a verge.

"There were no persons found to be trapped, the driver managed to self extricate prior to the arrival of the emergency services, and had thankfully sustained no injuries.The crew made the vehicle safe and were soon available to attend further incidents."

A third callout came as Whitchurch firefighters were called to assist their North Wales colleagues with an incident on the A495 at Bronington, Whitchurch.

The call came shortly before 7am with the crew dispatched to help after a crash.
