From thieves and rapists to a would-be murderer, the courts have been teeming with cases of all magnitude since we last looked back in November.

Notably, December saw the trial of Albrighton actor, Alexander Westwood, who appeared as a background actor in the Netflix series, Sex Education.

Westwood, 24, was charged with 26 separate charges against a boy, girl and aspiring actresses who he taught. It took the jury less than two days to find him guilty of all charges. He is due to be sentenced on February 25.

In courts throughout the county in December, several criminals were sent to serve the festive period behind bars.

Here are some of those cases the Shropshire Star reported on throughout the month.

Telford shoplifter who stole cider and coffee also caught driving while banned

Alex Bull, aged 38, lifted Nescafe coffee, chocolate and household items worth a combined £122 from Co-op in Milners Lane, Lawley, Telford on November 3.

Six days later, he targeted the same shop, stealing 16 jars of coffee, 11 laundry detergent items, a packet of dishwasher tablets and a bottle of Henry Weston’s cider worth a total of £125.50.

On Monday, November 25, Bull was caught driving a Vauxhall Grandland in Smallwood, Sutton Hill, Telford with no insurance and having already been disqualified.

Bull, of Johnston Road, Dawley, Telford, pleaded guilty at Kidderminster Magistrates Court to two counts of theft from a shop, failing to provide a specimen, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Magistrates jailed Bull for 12 weeks and ordered him to pay £247.50 in compensation.

December saw the law finally catch up with Mohammed Ramzan, who was sentenced in March this year for his role in leading a gang supplying class A drugs in Telford.

He, as well as the rest of the group including his wife Michelle Ramzan, were sentenced earlier this year to a combined 46 years behind bars for their roles in running the "Harry" drugs line, supplying cocaine and heroin in Telford from Berkshire and Buckinghamshire between 2016 and 2019.
