New member Councillor Chris Owen, Blue, headed to the capital with Councillor Steve Deeks-d’Silva, to showcase the work of town and community councils across Wales.

The event highlighted the work councils have done through the Local Places for Nature programme with Llandrindod’s members talking about the nature garden the council created on Temple Gardens.

Organised by One Voice Wales, there was a stand with displays at the event and the members were able to talk about the project in the Neuadd and Oriel parts of the Senedd.

Rachel Carter of One Voice Wales said: “this was a great opportunity to show the public as well as Senedd Members the incredible transformation of the sensory garden area and the achievements of your council and volunteer groups.”

Former councillor Laurence Weerdmeester-Price put forward the idea of the nature garden and drove the project forward.

But Councillor Deeks-D’Silva pulled together information about how it started, some of the work involved and the grants etc, as he was involved in the project and town clerk Jane Johnston said Councillor Owen took photographs and put a lot of work into it and did a great job on the presentation.

Councillor Deeks-D’Silva told members there were six to eight presentations from town councils and community groups and there were some very positive projects showing how they make such a difference to local areas.

“Hopefully the grant that funded our garden will continue. I explained about our garden to Welsh Government minister Lee Waters. Hopefully there will be more money available for these projects in the future.”
