Lead councillors are to be assigned to various projects in Kington to take them forward more quickly.

Projects proposed for further development include a dark sky policy, social media development, a staffing review, footpath and alleyway cleaning, and church yard maintenance and repairs.

Councillors will also be asked to work on churchyard maintenance and repairs, Crooked Well meadow and small works maintenance proposals.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Martin Woolford previously said councillors must do more research on their ideas before bringing them to Kington Town Council for a decision.

He said whilst councillors may have great ideas and intentions, when a project is considered it always lands on the clerk and assistant clerk to undertake the research and detail and this is unfair on already overworked staff and often leads to the council having to work to short deadlines and almost panic decisions.

“I propose that one councillor who has a particular interest in a field takes on investigating and preparing the ground. This should make decisions easier and quicker,” he added.

Councillor Woolford proposed that a lead councillor and/or a working party should be set up by the relevant committee to progress these projects with a view to putting forward proposals to full council for approval.

The council’s various committees, such as finance and general purpose, environment and personnel will now take these ideas and appoint a lead member. Members agreed.
