Oswestry care home resident, 93, awarded 50-year chevron for 'outstanding' charitable work

A 93-year-old care home resident in Oswestry has been awarded a 50-year chevron by the Lions Club International for his dedication to community service and charity work that continues to inspire others.

Bill Bowen was awarded the 50-year chevron as a recognition of his unwavering dedication to service and philanthropy in the local area. 

As a longstanding member of the global organisation, that is renowned for its commitment to community wellbeing, charitable causes, and humanitarian work, Bill’s contributions have made a lasting impact in his local community and beyond.

Bluebell View Care Home said the 93-year-old’s efforts to help others and support charitable initiatives have touched the lives of many, and that this new recognition is a "testament to his incredible commitment and passion for giving back".

The 50-year chevron award comes after Bill was previously honoured with a British Empire Medal (BEM) by the late Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to the Oswestry community.

Beverly Sterry, HC-One’s Bluebell View Care Home Manager, said: "We are so proud of Bill and all that outstanding work he has achieved. His resilience, kindness, and continuous efforts to help others, even at 93, are an inspiration to us all."
