Around a dozen residents in Abbott Drive in Hadnall said they have had issues with the sewage since moving to the new build properties, which were constructed around three years ago.

Lisa and David Mizen who live on the street said: "We have sewage coming up through our sink and toilet. Thankfully it hasn't started over flowing yet.”

Others say they have to put cling film on the toilet to stop it from overflowing into their home.

Rev Paul Cawthorne, a sewage campaigner who is assisting the residents said there is meeting in the village on January 15 to address the matter of sewage and the problems of flooding that has plagued the village and left effluent in people's homes and gardens.

He said: “The pipes are just not big enough. This has been going on for sometime so is not just down to the heavy rainfall recently. There's clearly a problem with sewage in Hadnall, especially around the new houses."

The estate was constructed by Gallier Homes, which has since been bought by Cameron Homes, who had responsibility for the sewage network before it was adopted by Severn Trent at the end of last year.

Cameron Homes were contacted but nobody was available to comment.

Severn Trent said they only took ownership of the properties in December and were “working with residents to understand the issue”.

A spokesperson said: “Since adopting Abbott Drive into our network on December 9, we have been working with residents to understand the issue and find the best long-term solution.

“We know just how unpleasant any form of flooding can be and our teams have been working hard since the start of the year to mitigate any impacts from the heavy rain and snowfall that we’ve been experiencing.”
