The cold snap has seen weather warnings issued and temperatures plummeting well below zero.
The situation has caused disruption on the roads, and only serves to heap further pressure on already stretched health services.
The good news is that from today, Friday, January 10, those weather warnings for ice are set to be lifted and temperatures will slowly start to rise over the weekend and into next week.
Overnight the region saw temperatures plummeting to -5°C in some areas across the region.
And while it is set to improve it is still predicted drop a low of -4°C on Friday evening and into Saturday morning.
There should be a rise from that point, continuing into next week.
Met Office predictions for Sunday show a low of 0°C overnight, rising to a heady 5°C in the afternoon.
That rise will continue into the start of the next week, with overnight temperatures on Monday set to sit at around 4°C, rising to 8°C later in the day.
Last night saw the lowest recorded overnight temperature of the year at -13.6C in Altnaharra, northern Scotland.
The region's yellow warning for ice will be lifted from 10am today.
Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick said: "It's going to be another cold couple of days, and recovering into the early part of next week."
