This stunning aerial shot taken by Star photographer Jamie Ricketts in Bishop's Castle, Shropshire shows a frost covered landscape, but with sunshine in the sky.
Over in the West Midlands, a selection of scenic wintry pictures were captured at Walsall Arboretum this morning by our photographer Tim Thursfield.
The Met Office says, however, that the bright, clear skies will be replaced by cloudier weather as temperatures creep up over the coming days.
In its forecast for Shropshire and the West Midlands, it said: “Freezing fog patches lingering today, less cold tomorrow.
“Freezing fog may linger all day today in places, keeping it very cold for some. But the majority will see some crisp winter sunshine, albeit staying frosty well into the day. Maximum temperature 3C.
“Turning cloudier this evening and staying often cloudy overnight. Clear spells developing later with perhaps a few fog patches. Not as cold as recently but still frosty for some. Minimum temperature -2C.
“A cold and, in places, frosty start to Sunday with a few fog patches. Often cloudy through the morning with sunny spells developing more widely by the afternoon. Feeling a bit milder. Maximum temperature 6C.”
In its outlook for Monday to Wednesday, the forecaster said: “Windier on Monday but dry. Breezy on Tuesday and Wednesday, and widely cloudy with the odd spot of light drizzle possible. Turning much milder.”
The region is currently subject to no weather warnings and one flood alert at the Tern and Perry catchments in Shropshire.
The alert said at 9.54am today (Saturday): “River levels remain high but continue to fall at the Walcot River gauge following recent heavy rainfall and snowmelt. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland continues.
“We expect flooding to affect low lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Wolverley to Newport. Other locations that may be affected include Market Drayton, Wem and Rodington.
“No rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high over the weekend. We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.”
