This extraordinary London and North Western Railway Station House was built in 1856 to serve Yorton railway station, around seven miles north of Shrewsbury

The railway station was designated for the axe in the Beeching Cuts of the 1960s but was ultimately saved and trains still stop here upon request today.

It means the new owners of the station house will be perfectly placed to commute around the country - simply walk out of your front door onto the first train of the day and you could be in London by 8.10am with a change at Crewe.

It was first listed in April last year for offers in the region of £465,000, but now it's been reduced and is back on the market with almost £100k off the asking price.

A spokesperson for Monks Estate Agents said: "This unique detached residence (with a royal link to Queen Mary who would have used the station house when she travelled by train to visit relatives nearby) is ideal for those with a penchant for both history and efficiency, a commuter's dream, providing access to London's vibrant heart while offering a tranquil retreat away from the urban hustle."

The historic property is described as "deceptively spacious", with two reception rooms, a dining room, kitchen, conservatory, utility room, bathroom and two bedrooms on the ground floor and two more on the first.

The listing agents suggest the first floor bedrooms could be used as separate accommodation, a granny annex or an Air B&B for railway enthusiasts.

It's full of character features too, including beamed ceilings, exposed brick and fireplaces.

Outside there's a private gated driveway with parking for several vehicles and a garden that's laid to lawn with several seating areas.

The railway station it used to service still has links to Shrewsbury, Crewe and London, and Yorton is a short stroll away from the village of Clive, which boasts a primary school, doctors and an active village hub.

It's now being listed online for offers in the region of £369,950 and is available to view online at: zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/69132412
