Ludlow Cancer Support Group (LCSG) is looking to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research by putting on a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Coffee Morning on Friday, March 28.
The event at the Parish Centre at St Peter's Church in Ludlow aims to raise £2,740, which LCSG said was equivalent to a day's research at one of Brain Tumour Research's Centres of Excellence.
It will be part of a weekend of activities in the town, with the Mayor of Ludlow Beverley Waite leading the group on a walk around Castle Square on Sunday, March 29.
The charity has been a fundraising force for a number of cancer charities since it started in 2014, but said it was looking to help support charities more closely linked to cancers affected its members.
A spokesman for LCSG said: "Since its inception in 2014, LCSG has raised monies for many cancer charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Severn Hospice, Cancer Research UK (CRUK) and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
"However, it was recently agreed that during 2025 the Group would support charities relating specifically to the cancers suffered by some of our members.
"We plan to raise £2,740, the cost of one day’s research in one of Brain Tumour Research’s Centres of Excellence, and will be staging a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Coffee Morning in the Parish Centre, St. Peter’s Church, Henley Road, Ludlow, SY8 1QZ on Friday, March 28.
"On Saturday, March 29, Councillor Beverley Waite, Mayor of Ludlow, will lead us on a short walk around Castle Square, and on both these occasions, everyone is invited to wear a hat."
The charity also offered praise to a choir group called Bella Acappella, a group of 35 women from South Shropshire and Herefordshire, after the choir had donated the proceeds of its Christmas Concert, with £2,000 raised.
A spokesman for LCSG said: "Bella Acappella is a truly magical choir formed of 35 ladies from South Shropshire and Herefordshire who love singing in four-part harmony.
"In November 2024, Amy Evans, Bella Acappella’s talented and enthusiastic Musical Director, contacted Ludlow Cancer Support Group to tell us that the proceeds of its Christmas Concert in St. John’s Church in Ludlow, would be donated to the Group.
"This week, we learnt that LCSG would receive the fantastic sum of £2000 from this event. This is amazing, and we are truly grateful.
"In the next week or so, LCSG will finalise its support for two or three more charities researching some of the specific cancers affecting our members, and this very generous donation from Bella Acappella will enable us to meet our hoped-for targets.
"Not only does this incredible choir create the most beautiful music, but its generosity will also help local people suffering from cancer."
