Jodie Clay admitted driving a blue Ford Focus at Trefonen Way on July 5 2024 with Benzoylecgonine and cocaine in her system, when she appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The 38 year-old of Trefonen Avenue had 401 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine per litre of blood, the legal limit being 50 micrograms and 22 micrograms of cocaine, the legal limit being 10 micrograms.

Prosecuting, Ms Skye Connors said police officer Amy Dicks stopped the Ford Focus and a drug wipe was requested and showed the presence of cocaine.

Clay was taken to Newtown Police Station where blood samples were taken and showed the presence of both drugs.

Ms Connors said Benzoylecgonine is a derivative of cocaine but as the reading was high, it may not have arisen from a single use, so Clay was charged with both matters. But she said for sentencing purposes it should be taken as one drug.

Mitigating, Mr Owain Jones said the magistrates may wish to order pre-sentence reports as he appreciates the reading was high.

He said Clay’s last conviction was in 2020 for drug driving.

Magistrates ordered all options pre-sentence reports and adjourned the case until January 28. They put an interim disqualification in place and Clay remains on unconditional bail.
