Town's tour guide and local historian dies

A familiar face to Bridgnorth visitors over the years has died.

Derek Crockson worked as the town's official tour guide until he retired five years ago.

The death of Mr Crockson, who in his eighties, was announced by the local library, where he worked from for many years.

In a statement, Bridgnorth Library and Visitor Information Point said: “It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of our dear friend and local history volunteer Derek Crockson. Derek was a true Bridgnorthian.

“His passion for history, matched his knowledge of his beloved town. He served as the official town guide for many years, until his retirement around 5 years ago. He will be sorely missed and his memory cherished by all of us at Bridgnorth Library.”

Bridgnorth Town Council also expressed their sadness at his passing.

A statement said: “We wish to express our sadness at the passing of Derek Crockson and to express our thanks for his many years of service at the Town Hall.

“His great knowledge for local history of the town and his pleasant demeanour will be sadly missed by all that knew and worked alongside him.”
