Police appeal for witnesses after wallet stolen in 'distraction theft' in Albrighton

An appeal for information has been launched after a person reported having their wallet stolen in what was described as a distraction theft.

West Mercia Police is investigating the incident, which took place at about 9am on Tuesday (January 14) in Albrighton High Street.

A person was approached outside a Co-op store by a man who asked for directions while getting close to the victim.

After he was seen leaving in a small, dark-coloured car, the member of the public reported noticing their wallet had been stolen from the jacket pocket.

West Mercia Police has asked for anyone with any information regarding the incident to get in touch.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "We are appealing for any witnesses that may have been in the area of the Co-op Store on the High Street, Albrighton at 9am on January 14.

"A member of the public was approached by male described as eastern European, scruffy-looking, around 5ft 7in asking for directions and getting very close into their personal space, before getting into a small dark-coloured vehicle and driving off.

"Shortly after this incident the member of public has noticed their wallet had been stolen from within their jacket pocket.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time or may have dash-cam footage of the vehicle leaving the area to contact us.
