Knife Angel back on home turf in Shropshire after UK-wide tour

The 27-foot tall sculpture made from more than 100,000 seized blades has returned to its home in Shropshire.

A social media post by The British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry, which is where the sculpture was made, showed the Knife Angel laid down on a hiab trailer and driven into the site on Wednesday. 

The powerful sculpture, created by artist Alfie Bradley, will stay at the centre for six weeks following its nationwide National Anti-Violence Tour.

It was erected in boroughs across the Black Country and in Wolverhampton city centre in 2023 and 2024. 

The angel was made out of knives taken off the streets, and was created to highlight the severity of knife crime and violence in the UK.

Visitors will have the chance to see it in person, with The British Ironwork Centre also announcing that it will be offering free entry from Tuesday to Friday every week starting from January 21.

The social media post read: "National Monument Against Violence and Aggression - Knife Angel arrives back in Oswestry Shropshire for a flying visit.Longest and most enduring national youth effort.Educational youth programme against violent behaviour ever to have taken place across the UK and continuing into 2025."

The post has received more than 2000 'likes' and hundreds of comments. 

A spokesperson for The British Ironwork Centre said: “Our incredible Knife Angel is coming home in January!  

“This sculpture, made from over 100,000 seized blades has been on a National Youth Anti-Violence Tour around the UK, but will be back on display at its birthplace in January for six weeks.

“Not only does the angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour, but it is also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions,” the spokesperson said.
