This week, a coordinated traffic safety operation was conducted across Wellington and Hadley, focusing on key priorities including speeding, mobile phone use and seatbelt compliance.

The operation involved multiple road safety officers and utilised marked and unmarked vehicles as well as police motorcycles.

PC Rob Hughes, who began his day at 7am and didn't clock off until 6.30pm, joined forces with motorcycle officers and Safer Neighbourhood Teams from Wellington and Donnington police stations.

In what he described as "a great success", the operation revealed multiple offences, including two drivers using their mobile phones, several seatbelt violations and one vehicle with illegally tinted windows.

Other offences included unauthorised use of a bus lane, driving without insurance and failure to stop when requested by police.

Another vehicle was found with wheels extending beyond the wheel arches, creating a hazard for other road users.

Officers also recovered a stolen quad bike, with investigations now underway to identify those responsible.

PC Hughes said: "Road safety impacts everyone in our community. A moment's distraction, whether from using a phone or other unsafe behaviour, can lead to devastating consequences.

"Today's operation shows how diverse traffic violations can be, from uninsured vehicles to illegal modifications."

Further operations are planned to maintain enforcement presence and continue improving road safety across the area.
