Plans were approved in summer 2023 for Telford's multi-million-pound Station Quarter development, close to the town centre.
Work soon began on clearing the 5.91 hectares of land between the Telford Centre shopping complex and the nearby Telford Central railway station, once occupied by outdated office buildings.
Serviced office accommodation, commercial units and flexible retail including leisure, food and drink outlets and a six-storey hotel are part of the final plans for the land.
Phase one of the development, which is currently under way, has already seen the construction of a "state-of-the art digital skills and enterprise hub" - The Quad - which opened last September.
The building is a collaboration between Telford & Wrekin Council, Harper Adams University, Telford College, and other partners and is expected to host more than 300 students a year.
Telford College is welcoming around 200 learners aged 16 to 18 at the facility and is set to host a range of evening courses for adults, while Harper Adams University is set to deliver a series of short courses before recruiting to a range of degrees to be taught at the new base.
The construction of 189 residential units is also currently under way, which will be made up for combination of one-, two-, and three-bed apartments and townhouses which will be available for rent through NuPlace, Telford & Wrekin Council’s housing investment company, and its housing partner, Legal & General Affordable Homes.
There are also a series of highway improvements taking place, which aim to improve the connectivity from the Swallow Bridge/Train Station exit onto Ironmasters Way, through to the Lawn Central junction and up to Telford Shopping Centre. It will also eventually see the creation of new public amenity spaces and squares.
A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council said: "Despite recent freezing temperatures, work on Nuplace’s 84-dwelling apartment block is moving ahead with the substructure close to completion.
"The building frame will start to emerge over the coming weeks. Meanwhile, works to form estate roads and install services to the town houses will start this month and provide key infrastructure for the construction of the 105 one-, two- and three-bedroom homes.
"The residential project will bring modern, state-of-the-art town centre living to Telford town centre."
The first phase of work is set to be completed by summer 2026.
