Severn Hospice unveiled Shimmer Walk 2025, its first Telford mass participation event in more than five years, which will see supporters raise money for charity.

Eight years ago, the organisation, which provides care and support to thousands of people living with incurable illness, held the final of its successful series of Midnight Walks, which took place in Shrewsbury and raised more than £500,000.

Since then, supporters have asked for a similar event to be held in Telford.

The new event is coming to Telford later this year.

Lizzy Ellis, the charity’s event fundraiser said: “We are back, and we are so excited to launch Shimmer. Our Midnight Walks were so popular, and we knew there would be a real appetite for a similar event.

“Shimmer Walk 2025 is our first mass participation event in Telford in many years and we hope that everyone is looking forward to it as much as we are.”

The event promises to be fun, giving those taking part the opportunity to raise money for the hospice charity while remembering those who have experienced its care.

Participants, who are encouraged to wear their brightest and sparkliest outfits, will set off at 9pm on May 10 and make their way from Charlton School, where there will be an ‘event village’ with music and a motivational warm up, to Apley Woods.

Along the way, there will be fun zones where participants will be covered in foam and bubbles while the woods will be festooned with fairy lights lending a magical and enchanting atmosphere.

If they wish, walkers will also be able to visit the hospice’s gardens at Apley Castle where they can light a lantern and remember loved ones who are missed.

“This will be a lovely way to remember those who we have cared for, while at the same time enjoying a walk through the woods. It really will appeal to everybody, and anyone can get involved,” added Lizzy.

Registration is now open and includes a glow necklace and goodies at the end of the walk plus a medal and certificate.

“All we ask is that each person taking part aims to raise £50 in sponsorship, which will support the care we give to so many local people facing heartbreak,” said Lizzy. “Come and Shimmer for Severn Hospice.”
