Businesses throughout the town are taking part in an initiative encouraging customers to show appreciation of their local retailers.

Jenna Humphreys, of Love Wellington, said it was hoped the scheme would bring people into town to visit their favourite traders and also provide social media exposure to Wellington businesses.

She explained: “Customers are being asked to get a picture of themselves at the business, holding a Love Wellington Valentine’s card, and then send us the photograph with the reason why they really value the service they receive from this local Wellington business.

“We are looking forward to receiving lots of lovely photographs and compliments about the great shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs we have in Wellington – with most of the businesses jumping to get involved.”

All those participating will be entered into a draw to win a £50 voucher for a romantic Valentine’s meal for two at either The Orange House Spanish Tapas restaurant or the newly opened Italian The Brothers which opened just before Christmas .

Jenny Duff of Beautiful Bargains, which sells a range of gifts on Wellington Market, said: “I am pleased to taking part in the promotion and engaging with old and new customers.

“This is also a fantastic opportunity for customers to win a meal – just by taking a picture of themselves and posting their comments. It is also a great way for customers to show their love and appreciation of the hard-working Wellington businesses.”
