From the late 19th century, the Grade II listed building on College Hill was home to Alfred Mansell & Co Auctioneers and still bears the company's sign above the doors today.
But having been largely out of use in recent years, the upper two levels of the Shrewsbury building have reportedly fallen into a state of disrepair.
The previous owner of the property, whose family had owned it for over 100 years, had secured planning permission to turn the building into a three-storey home in 2022.
During that process, Shropshire Council's conservation officer was initially concerned that the original plans to extend the roof with a flat dormer were of an "inappropriate scale", but they were then redesigned and considered acceptable.
