Wollerton Old Hall Garden, off the A53 between Tern Hill and Hodnet, will feature on BBC Two tonight (Friday, January 24) as part of a showing of the third episode in Monty Don's new series where he takes a trip from Scotland down through England and Wales to the south coast, visiting gardens along the way.

The beautiful garden based at Wollerton Old Hall - a 16th century timber framed manor house - has been looked after by Lesley and John Jenkins since 1984.

The garden sits within a four-acre plot, is divided into 14 different sub-areas and boasts wonderful hedges, a range of colourful plants, and pathways.

The episode, which will be available to view on BBC iPlayer after the broadcast at 7pm, begins with Monty viewing another gorgeous garden in mid Wales before he takes a trip across the border and into Shropshire to visit the garden he said he has "long admired" from photographs.

Speaking on Wollerton Old Hall Garden as part of the BBC programme, Monty said: "The front of the house and its planting are handsome, but go around the back and through a door and a wall and the magic begins."

After exploring, Monty sits down with designer Lesley to chat about the garden and its features.

"What strikes any visitor but certainly me is that there is drama at every turn, there is theatre at every turn, but there is also intimacy, it is personal," he said to Lesley.

In conclusion he said: "What this garden shows me is that the combination of drama and intimacy, the sense of personal involvement, is what makes a garden go from good to great."

In a social media post this week, Wollerton Old Hall Garden thanked Monty for visiting and for his description of the site.

The post said: "We are all very proud to be a part of this series and feel quite humbled to be included amongst some of the most beautiful gardens in Britain. We were particularly touched by Monty Don’s closing quote about our garden.

"We all hope you enjoy the episode and the rest of the series."

The episode will be broadcast at 7pm then be available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
