Shrewsbury Town Council said it had been delighted by the amount of people taking part in the survey, with nearly 800 responses already received.
The survey, which focuses on proposed investments to protect and improve 'street scene' services, such as street cleaning, litter bin management, graffiti removal, and maintaining green spaces, provides an opportunity for residents to directly influence local decision-making.
The proposals include the creation of a new Neighbourhood Team, who will focus on improving the town’s appearance, enhancing the local environment, and tackling issues like fly-tipping, street cleaning, and green space upkeep.
In response to these proposals, the town council is considering a £15 annual increase in council tax - equating to 30p per week per household.
It said the additional funding will allow it to make "vital improvements that residents have long sought, including enhanced street scene services".
Alan Mosley, Leader of the Council, expressed his satisfaction with the response so far.
He said: “We are delighted with the numbers responding to our consultation so far and I hope that even more will take the opportunity to review our proposals and have their say. We are looking to make significant investment stepping up to protect and improve important ‘Street Scene’ functions across the town which are threatened with decline, and in some cases closure, due to Shropshire Council’s financial circumstances.”
The survey remains open until 9am on Monday, January 27, and residents are encouraged to take part and have their say on the proposals.
The final decision will be made by the council on the same evening, with all responses considered as part of the budget discussions.
A statement from the authority urged people to take the chance to have their say.
It said: "Shrewsbury Town Council would like to thank all those who have participated in the survey so far and urges those who haven’t yet responded to make their voice heard. Together, the community can help shape a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Shrewsbury for years to come."
