Police got the tape measure out to show why they had fined a driver over their parking.

Telford & Wrekin's Police Community Support Officers have landed the motorist with a £30 fine - for parking to close to a junction in Arleston.

Officers said the owner had broken the rules of the road by parking within ten metres of a junction.

They in fact got out the tape measure to prove that the vehicle was just over three metres from the junction.

As a result the owner was hit with a penalty notice - set to leave their wallet £30 lighter.

Posting about the incident on social media Telford & Wrekin Police said: "Today Police Community Support Officers Goodman and Lloyd issued a Traffic Offence Notice, to a vehicle in Arleston, Telford, where it was deemed to have Caused Unnecessary Obstruction of the Highway.

"The vehicle was parked unattended within 10 metres of a Junction, (the vehicle to the junction was measured at just over three metres).

"Due to its position, anyone trying to manoeuvre out of the junction would not be able to clearly see past the offending vehicle for oncoming traffic. This type of offence carries a fine of £30."
