Extra lamp post poppies and funding bids for Llandrindod Wells skateboard park featured in town clerk's report
Llandrindod Wells Town Council is considering extending the display of Lamp Post poppies to Station Crescent, Middleton Street and South Crescent for Remembrance Day 2025.
Councillor Jamie Jones said an extra 27 poppies would be needed to cover the area and it would extend down to the bus station.
In her report to the January town council meeting, town clerk Jane Johnston said the council is actively seeking grant funding opportunities for the Skate Park.
Permission for the new skate park was received recently after three years of determined work but the hard work of sourcing funding continues. Unfortunately the Community Ownership Fund was withdrawn on the announcement of the general election.
The reinforced concrete park will replace the current old steel and timber half pipe facility on Princes Avenue, which was installed in the early 2000’s and is a well-used facility.
The skatepark has been designed to have a range of low to high-level ramps to aid in incremental skill progression, along with a wide range of obstacle styles from street/plaza and a variety of transitions.
So, all riding disciplines are accounted for and everyone can enjoy the skatepark no matter what they like to ride or skill level.
Ms Johnston also said the town council is awaiting the launch of the new Transforming Towns Grant and are in liaison with Powys County Council Regeneration Officers.
But she said an application for a grant for an electronic interpretation board from the Brilliant Basics Fund was unsuccessful.
She said The new Brilliant Basics mandatory criteria to support environmentally sustainable destinations and respond to the climate emergency was difficult for a project such as this. Also, the cost of the project as a whole.
Ms Johnston thanked the chairman Councillor Marcia Morgan for dealing with a resident’s complaint about people purporting to be Big Issue sellers in town over the Christmas shut down period.
She said this has now been reported to the Police and Trading Standards who are investigating it.
The new tree on Temple Gardens was subject to some vandalism in early December and it was reported to the police.
All of the town’s Christmas lights were turned off on January 6 and they will be taken down when the weather is better.
