West Mercia Police officer and member of Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Team, Simon Wilkey reported the seizure on Middleton Road this morning.

Officers found that children within the car were not strapped in, or in booster seats.

Checks on the vehicle revealed that the car was notified as 'off road' and should not be driven or parked on public roads.

The driver was given a traffic offence report and the Volkswagen car was seized.

A post on the force's Neighbourhood Matters page said: "We were shocked to find that a driver who was taking his children to school had not taken the time to ensure that they were neither strapped in, nor on booster seats.

"Checks were carried out and we found that the car was notified off road. The driver was given a traffic offence report for not ensuring that children had their seatbelts on and his vehicle was seized.

"It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that anyone under the age of 14 is wearing a seatbelt. If they are found not to be wearing a seatbelt then it is an automatic £100 fine which the driver is liable for. Wearing a seatbelt has been proven time and again to save lives.

"Please buckle up!"
