The Townhouse in Oswestry's Willow Street made the announcement on social media on Wednesday evening.

The bar said the decision to shut had been "incredibly difficult" and had left them "devastated".

"This decision has been made, in large part, due to the ill health of our owner, and while it is not the outcome we had hoped for, it is the right one at this time," the Townhouse said.

"We would like to thank our dedicated team, past and present, who have worked tirelessly to bring our vision to life.

"We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you, our guests, who have supported us over the years. Your loyalty and generosity is not something we take for granted, and we hope that you choose to give your custom to other fantastic local businesses.

"While we are devastated by our closure, we hope it can serve as a reminder of the importance of supporting local hospitality. Without your continued backing, independent restaurants and bars, like ours, simply cannot survive. If you love a place, visit it, celebrate it, and help it thrive or there won’t be anywhere left.

"While our chapter is coming to an end, we are pleased to share that interest has been shown by a possible new tenant who will hopefully have exciting plans for 35 Willow Street in the near future. We look forward to seeing the next evolution of the space that we have called home for the last decade, and hope you will support them as warmly as you have supported us."
