Shropshire Farming Talk: Grain markets have firmed slightly
The grain markets have firmed slightly over the last week.
This has been supported by a weaker pound, which has made imports more expensive.
However, there are still many imported tonnes in the country.
What I consider to be ineptitude of the government is inadvertently helping prices, but I’m not sure relying on incompetence is the best way forward.
Recent proposed changes to inheritance tax (IHT), four-wheel drives, and now gun licence fees are causing considerable distress among our customers.
As predicted in an earlier column, fertiliser prices are rising due to supply and demand.
If you haven’t placed your order yet, for the sake of your merchant’s sanity, please do so as soon as possible.
The lambing season, both at home and elsewhere, is about to begin.
I sincerely hope it will be much better than last year, which is best forgotten.
On that note, good luck to you all. I hope the weather is kind and that the lambs are healthy and thriving.
