Ahmed Lal, of King Street in Wellington, was driving his friend’s white BMW M4 along Watling Street in Wellington on June 18, 2023 when he struck David Skinner as he was crossing the road.
Lal, aged 24, was jailed for five years and eight months at Shrewsbury Crown Court this week, a sentence which has been welcomed by West Mercia Police.
Dramatic footage of the collision was played to the court, showing Mr Skinner being thrown into the air and landing in the back seat of the BMW, which had its roof down. It was estimated by experts that Lal was doing at least 67mph, and may have been going as fast as 71.5mph.
