Lakeside Luxury Cattery in Woore, near Market Drayton, have had their plans for a new secure dog walking field approved by Shropshire Council.

The application, which was submitted in December, proposed changing the use of an on-site agricultural field to a secure dog walking area.

It also included the erection of a 1.8-metre perimeter fence and parking facilities for up to six vehicles.

The company, which was established in June 2012, is licensed for 125 cats and currently employs six people, but the application said they anticipated those numbers would increase should this proposal be approved.

Now, Shropshire Council has given the green light to the plans. The planning officer's report stated: "The proposed dog exercise area will allow the land owner to diversify their existing business and make use of the unused agricultural land, whilst ensuring no visual harm is caused to the local setting [or] rural landscape.

"Additionally subject to control measures being put in place by way of condition, officers are satisfied that the proposed change of use will not result in any additional harm to the surrounding land uses, amenities, or the highway network."

As part of the conditions, the new facility would only be able to host six dogs at any one time, and opening times would be limited to daylight hours.
