Earlier this week the university revealed that it is to close its Telford campus at Priorslee.

The announcement has raised significant question marks over the future of a major site in one of the most sought-after areas of Telford and Wrekin.

The site includes the historic Priorslee Hall, which was previously home to Telford Development Corporation.

Telford MP Shaun Davies said the site has "massive potential", and urged the university to ensure it leaves a legacy for the town.

He said any plans for the future should protect the historic elements of the site - such as Priorslee Hall.

He said: "This is a prime site offering massive potential for Priorslee and wider Telford.

"I am seeking to understand from the university about their plans for the site into the future and have already spoken to the council about their role too.

"It should not simply be sold to the highest bidder: the university must show leadership for their legacy for our town.

"I am keen to ensure the historical aspects of the site are also protected.

"I'll be listening to residents and working hard to make the best of this once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape and repurpose the site."

Telford & Wrekin Council expressed its disappointment at the university's decision earlier this week.

Councillor Shirley Reynolds, the authority’s cabinet member for children, young people, education, employment and skills, said that it would focus on the ongoing development of an academic campus in Telford's town centre.

She said: “We’re disappointed with the University of Wolverhampton’s decision to relocate its campus away from Telford after being based in the town for a number of years.

“But as a council we are determined to ensure that our residents have access to the best education and training opportunities and the development of an academic campus in the heart of Telford town centre, making Telford the go-to place to gain qualifications, learn new skills and secure great careers, is moving at pace.

“The Quad opened in September 2024 and is home to Harper Adams University, a new Digital Skills Hub and a start-up Business Hub and another exciting announcement around education provision in the town is coming soon.

“Our residents tell us of the importance they place on access to good education and we will continue to invest to deliver on that priority.”
