Morville residents are celebrating a significant road safety win as £5,990 has been secured to fund the new Vehicle Activated Speed Signs (VAS).

This funding is the result of a concerted community effort led by local council candidate Dominic Stanford, working alongside Morville Parish Council, Stuart Anderson MP, and a dedicated residents' group.

The funding, granted by the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), will enable the installation of vital safety measures that will help curb speeding and improve road safety in Morville.

Mr Stanford said: “I am really pleased that by working together, we have secured the money needed from the PCC to deliver the road safety measures Morville residents are crying out for. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the campaign. We hope to have the safety measures installed in the coming months.”

This funding comes after months of community-led campaigning and political support. On November 8 last year, Stuart Anderson MP met with the Morville Speed Group, the Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion, and Dominic Stanford to discuss urgent road safety concerns.

There have been concerns about speeding through the village.
There have been concerns about speeding through the village.

Local residents had previously expressed their frustrations at a Morville Parish Council meeting on September 10, highlighting the dangers posed by speeding vehicles, collisions, and damage to property.

Mr Anderson welcomed the success of the campaign, stating: “Securing this funding is a fantastic achievement for Morville. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of local residents and campaigners like Dominic Stanford, we are now in a position to implement effective road safety measures. The installation of Vehicle Activated Speed Signs will play a crucial role in reducing speeding and making the village a safer place for everyone. This is a great example of how collaboration can lead to real change, and I will continue to support initiatives that improve road safety across the constituency.”

John Campion, Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia said: "At the heart of my police and crime plan is a focus on reducing the harm too often caused on our roads. I heard loud and clear from the community in Morville about the impact speeding continues to have on feelings of safety.

“Working with the local community and Stuart Anderson, I am proudly funding signs that are a proven way of reducing speed and educating motorists, supporting ongoing enforcement activity and engineering improvements.”

This funding forms part of a wider strategy to improve road safety in Morville, which includes an extension of the speed limit down Haughton Lane to cover new homes on Prestwich Close, additional road markings, and gateway improvements at the village entrance which the Parish Council have agreed to fund with the support of the Morville Speed Group.

The newly secured funds will go towards the installation of Vehicle Activated Speed Signs, which serve as a vital tool to remind drivers of the speed limit and encourage safer driving behaviour.
